2018 repress - bicep make their way home to feel my bicep records for their first 12” on the imprint since their collaborative ‘dahlia’, recorded with hammer, back in september of 2015. fmb006 is a notable addition to the label - a reimagining of blaze’s seminal recording ‘lovelee dae’ - originally released on classic back in 1997, before a string of subsequent re-issues and remix packages on playhouse, true and urban tracks that included carl craig and 20:20 vision. the remix was originally designed to be included in their essential mix in 2014, but a lack of space has meant that its pressing on fmb is the first time it sees the light of day. using ralph lawson and carl finlow’s classic aforementioned acapella version as the basis of their work, the bicep lads ensnare an air of swooning euphoria in their remix that stays true to both their original productions and their dj sets. shortened vocals suffuse galloping 909s and a gleaming synth riff that certify it as a festival fail safe

lost in time has laid down some killer 12-s to date from the likes of ralph lawson and tuccillo, and now they welcome london-based scene staple alex arnout to the label with an on-point ep of explorative house music variations. -no borders- features long time us house veteran jovonn, and the pair whip up a tracky tech house roller with serious percussive pressure and a subtle lick of dub in the mix. -downtown 500- is a rough and tough, bashy house jam with a fresh drum palette, and by contrast -riddim- brings a straight up deep house vibe with classic organ licks aplenty, that almost sound like they should be the handiwork of jovonn as well. -jam the dance- finishes the ep off with a twitchy house cut peppered with vocal slices.

idris muhammad was an american jazz drummer who recorded extensively with many musicians, including bob james, ahmad jamal, lou donaldson, pharoah sanders, john scofield, george benson, lonnie smith and tete montoliu. power of soul is his best known album and is one of the reasons that idris muhammad is regarded as the drumming king of groove. featuring the arrangements and keyboards of bob james, the saxophone punch of grover washington, jr., guitarist joe beck, trumpeter randy brecker, percussionist ralph macdonald, and the knife-edge slick production of creed taylor, this 1974 album is a burning piece of deep, jazzy soul and grooved-out bliss.

produced and recorded in 1965 during a time when chicago soul was one of the most influential sounds in r&b.the dontells entered the studio and cut two tracks that put that sound on full display. the session was led by producer calvin carter, world famous arranger johnny pate-along with the cities top musicians. these tracks were never released and have only been heard by a few people until now. the a side “move on down the line” grabs you from the first second the needle drops. a mid tempo love song with a trademark arrangement from pate and a vocal melody and approach in the style of chicago’s king of soul, curtis mayfield. “there goes a fool” is the b side and is a reminder why the dontells were one of the best groups out of the windy city. another brilliant production with a top notch arrangement. horns, strings, a swinging backbeat and that signature chicago vocal sound lead by the sweet harmonies of nate, leroy, manuel & ralph. this is no doubt a 60’s soul classic in 2017!

it is very difficult to present david duriez without writing an encyclopedic tome as its influence on the house music in france was decisive. since its inception in 1992, david released over a hundred records under his name, tens under various pseudonyms, mainly on vinyls on the most renowned labels like 2020vision, ovum, systematic, pokerflat, f communication, under the counter, stickman, crosstown rebels, the end, etc .. love or hate his infamous twitter beefs there is no denying the legendary status of this house music vanguard. with 20+ years of djing and producing under his belt, this is dj sneak s first release on exploited: a collaboration with murk (oscar g and ralph falcon). back in 2003 murk released dark beat - a track that topped the billboard dance charts and became the underground smash of the year. a few months ago we asked sneak for a remix by mail but we didn t get a reply. after 4 months he suddenly popped up in our mailbox, apologized and said that he finally had some studio time. in the end he sent through some tracks to see if we like them. the rest is history as you re probably listening to one of the tracks right now. this quirky and funky house track (a 10 minute journey) is only the tip of the ice berg though.

argentinean musician and producer fernando pulichino joins the cynic fray and brings with him a storied reputation that includes a multitude of releases as fernando for the likes of international feel, leng, internasjonal, redux, under the shade, nang, and bearfunk. in addition to his solo work, pulichino has been an integral cog in the 2020 soundsystem, a live act headed by ralph lawson that have been known to close out proceedings at sonar. the stereo drive 12 inch is a fine example of fernandos style, all clean production values with subtle hints of proto house and balearica respectively running through the title cut and b sider -sunset strip-. another killer 12 inch from felix dickinson s revitalised cynic label.
